He's Reading Now! Autism and Hyperbaric Oxygen

The Guzmans took their autistic son Sammy to Dr. Steenblock in July of 2006 after having heard a commercial on the Paul MacGuire radio show. The Guzmans said Sammy could "talk", but they could barely understand what he was saying. He would only say what he'd memorized, and then he'd repeat things over and over. Sammy was behind in speech. In fact, Sammy's school speech pathologist told the Guzmans that he was at a "3 year old" level in his speech even though he was 6 years old. They were told he was behind - but they certainly didn't need an evaluation to tell them that! Dr. Steenblock did a complete exam on Sammy in August.

The Guzman's main goal became improvement in Sammy's speech. They started on the hyperbaric oxygen [HBO] sessions. They also did blood tests, urine tests and followed Dr. Steenblock's recommended diet and supplements according to the results of the lab work. It was discovered that Sammy had a yeast infection and he got treatment for that. He had higher than normal levels of lead and mercury. He took medication for that. Some of the supplements he took were CoQ10 and Omega3. He was recommended a casein and gluten-free diet. Mrs. Guzman admits that they haven't been able to follow the diet completely as it's very difficult (almost impossible, she said), especially for a kid-but they did the best they could.

Sammy has now had about 49 HBO treatments. It was about the 13th or 14th treatment when the Guzmans first saw results. One day Sammy wanted to talk on the phone. NEVER in his life had he wanted to talk on the phone he was afraid. His mother would say, "Come on, talk to daddy (or my sister)." But Sammy refused. Then one day Mrs. Guzman was talking to her husband on the phone and Sammy took the phone and said, "Daddy, Hi, I had a good day at school!"

"I'll never forget that day! It was the first time in his life that he wanted to talk on the phone!"

Everybody began to notice that Sammy was talking a lot more. Last year Sammy schooled only with all autistic kids. The Guzmans no longer wanted to have him there because he was with more severe kids. So this year Sammy started a new school with special education, but not specifically for autistic kids. When Mrs. Guzman took Sammy and visited the school he had attended the last three years his teacher was amazed, and said, "Oh my gosh, Sammy talks a lot, what did you do? Last year I could barely understand what he was saying!"

Now Sammy is 7, and after following most of Dr. Steenblock's recommendations and having HBO sessions, Sammy is reading at his level! Now that's something to write home about!

Hyberbaric Oxygen Works to Heal Autism!

In the Summer, 2006 issue of The Pressure Point, a newsletter put out by the International Hyperbarics Association, Inc., is featured powerful testimonials of doctors and parents who give glowing reports of successful outcomes for their autistic children who have undergone hyperbaric oxygen treatments. In the beginning one doctor thought there was surely no hope for autistic children. But then after using hyperbaric oxygen, especially in conjunction with Vitamin B12 [methyl B12 to be exact], the hopelessness disappeared. Now, children on all levels of what doctors call the "autistic spectrum"* are benefiting. (*Because some children are very highly functioning, and others need constant shadowing). As one doctor put it, "the impregnable walls of conventional thinking are beginning to crumble."

At our office we've been using hyperbaric oxygen for autism and other brain disorders for over 20 years. We, too, have parents who give glowing reports of their children, after being put on some dietary changes by Dr. Steenblock, and utilizing what the families lovingly call HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen therapy]. The children love the "spaceship" ride in our hard chambers, allowing them to watch their favorite cartoons as they "dive". Parents enjoy trading stories and being encouraged by each other.
